Pottuvil Divisional Secretariat area is located in the southeast corner of Ampara district, in the Eastern Province. It lies north by Thirukovil D.S. area, east by Bay of Bengal, south and west by Lahugala D.S. area. The total area is 299.97sq km which measures approximately 21 km in length and 06km in width. Pottuvil is situated 71 km away from Ampara city via Akkaraipattu and 330km away from the capital city of Colombo. Pottuvil Divisional Secretariat area includes 27 Grama Niladhari divisions with 46 villages where are huge amounts of natural resources such as forest, hills, sandy beaches, lagoons, rivers, and wetlands.
